ANNUAL NSS CAMP (2014-15)

From 05-Jan-2015 to 11-Jan-2015


The NSS Unit of the college organized ANNUAL NSS CAMP at Dahemi village (Ta: Borsad and Dist: Anand) which is nearly 15 kms away from Vallabh Vidyanagar. The camp was held from 05.01.15 to 11.01.15. Total 150 (One Hundred and Fifty) students participated in this camp. Mentioned below is the detailed record of the activities carried out during this camp.

   
Day - 1 : 05-01-2015
 
  • The NSS volunteers, along with three NSS Programme Officers and four faculty members, moved to Dahemi village at 2 pm. In the evening, a meeting was conducted to orient students about the activities to be conducted during the camp. The NSS volunteers were divided into groups and a group leader was selected for each group.

Day - 2 : 06-01-2015
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. The Inaugural Function was organized in Dahemi Primary School, Dahemi at 10.30 am. After prayer, the University Song of Sardar Patel University was sung by the students. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi, Principal of the college presided over the function. Dr. Bhavesh Patel, Principal of V. P. and R. P. T. P. Science College, V. V. Nagar was invited as the chief guest of the function. Dr. Gurusevak Sing, NSS Programme Coordinator, Sardar patel University, V. V. Nagar was invited as the guest of honour. Mr. Udesang Gohel, Sarpanch of the village, Mr. Jashbhai Patel, Principal of Dahemi Primary School and many villagers were also present in the function. Mr. Ambalal Patel, a leading villager donated Rs. One Lakh for the Swaminarayan Temple on this occasion.


  3. At 3.30 pm a Silent Rally with 50 posters based on the subjects ‘Addiction Eradication’ and ‘AIDS Prevention’ started from the Swaminarayan Temple. The rally passed through almost all the streets of the village. Teachers and students visited the slum area where people seemed to have various addictions. They, with the help of posters, explained people how addictions can be harmful to them. The villagers were also informed about the Free Medical Check-up Camp and Eye Check-up camp to be organized by the NSS unit.


  4. Some groups were assigned duty of cleaning some streets of the village.

  5. After dinner the students were informed about the planned activities of the next day and assigned various duties.

Day - 3 : 07-01-2015
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. A special session for bird-watching was organized near a pond of the village wherein Dr. Rajiv Bhatti, Faculty in V. P. and R. P. T. P. Science College, V. V. Nagar and Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi, Director of Community Science Centre, V. V. Nagar demonstrated some techniques for bird-watching. Students enjoyed the session very much.

  3. A Free Medical Check-up Camp was organized from 10 am to 3 pm. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from Surajben Govindbhai Patel Ayurvedic Hospital, New Vallabh Vidyanagar examined more than two hundred and fifty patients and medicines were given free of cost as per requirement.

  4. Some groups were busy in the management of the camp. On the other side, some groups were sent to various schools of the village between 10 am and 1 pm. They interacted with the students and played some educational games with the students.


  5. Some groups were assigned duty of cleaning some streets of the village in the evening.

  6. After dinner, some volunteers gave demonstrations on ‘Superstitions Eradication’ with the help of a skit involving several experiments of chemical reactions.

Day - 4 : 08-01-2015
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6.30 am to 7.30 am.

  2. In association with Dr. Jethawa Eye Hospital a Free Eye Check-up Camp was organized from 10 am to 3 pm wherein more than 200 people got their eyes checked.

  3. Simultaneously, in association with A. D. Gorwala Blood Bank, Karamsad a ‘Blood Donation Camp’ was organized wherein 30 units of blood was collected.

  4. Some volunteers visited schools of the village from 10 am 3 pm. They explained some theories of science with the help of scientific models prepared by themselves.


  5. After lunch a special session was conducted on ‘Global Warming’ and ‘How to celebrate Uttarayan’ by Mr. Hiren Ganatra, the volunteer of Community Science Centre, V. V. Nagar.

  6. At 4 pm Dr. Haris Gershom, retired lecturer of V. P. & R. P. T. P. Science College, V. V. Nagar informed students about his non-conventional musical instrument ‘Harishophone’. He explained how music therapy can be helpful in treatment of various physical and psychological diseases. He demonstrated, with his unique instruments, methods of alpha meditation.

  7. A street play on the theme of ‘Save Girl Child’ was organized in various streets of the village.

  8. From 8.30 pm to 10 pm a workshop was organized wherein all the groups were assigned some tasks involving brainstorming exercises. Students found those exercises very interesting and helpful in analyzing their perspective towards life.

Day - 5 : 09-01-2015
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. From 10 am to 12.30 pm Ms. Dhwani Sharma, a motivational speaker delivered a lecture on ‘Youth Empowerment and Skills Development’.

  3. After lunch a programme on the theme of ‘Food Adulteration’ was organized wherein faculty and students from S. M. Patel College of Home Science, V. V. Nagar demonstrated some techniques to find out food adulteration.

  4. At 4 pm ‘Mehndi Competition’ was organized for the village girls and women.

  5. Two faculty members Ms. Monika Patel and Mr. Ranubha Gohil of the department of Computer Science conducted a training programme for the computer teachers of the village schools.

  6. After dinner, cultural programmes were organized wherein some volunteers as well as village children performed dance.




Day - 6 : 10-01-2015
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. At 10 am a group discussion session was organized wherein students were guided about the skill of group discussion.

  3. From 2 pm to 4.30 pm street plays on the theme of ‘Save Girl Child’ and ‘Clean India’ were performed in the outskirts of the village.




  4. At 7 pm ‘Sky Gazing’ programme was organized in association with Community Science Centre, V. V. Nagar. Dr. Brijmohan Thakar and Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi, Director of C. C. Patel Community Science Centre, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar gave information about planets, comet, galaxy etc. with the help of telescopes.

  5. After dinner, cultural programmes were organized wherein some performances of dance were followed by traditional Garba. Village folk also accompanied NSS volunteers and enjoyed the programmes.




Day - 7 : 11-01-2015
 
  • The valedictory function of NSS camp started at 10.30 am at Swaminarayan Temple Hall. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi - the Principal, Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi- Director of C. C. Patel Community Science Centre, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar and leading villagers were present on this occasion. The winners of Dance and Mehndi competition were given prizes. The NSS Unit expressed sincere thanks to all the Principals, teachers and villagers of Dahemi for all their support and cooperation.
