ANNUAL NSS CAMP (2015-16)

The NSS Unit of the college organized ANNUAL NSS CAMP at Alarsa village (Ta: Borsad and Dist: Anand). The camp was held from 03.01.16 to 09.01.16. Total 150 (One Hundred and Fifty) students participated in this camp. Mentioned below is the detailed record of the activities carried out during this camp.

   
Day - 1 : 03-01-2016
 
  • The NSS volunteers, along with three NSS Programme Officers and four faculty members, moved to Alarsa village at 2 pm. In the evening, a meeting was conducted to orient students about the activities to be conducted during the camp. The NSS volunteers were divided into groups and were assigned various duties for each day.

Day - 2 : 04-01-2016
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. At 9.30 am a rally, with posters based on the subjects ‘Addiction Eradication’ and ‘AIDS Awareness’, was given the green signal. The rally passed through almost all the streets of the village. Teachers and students visited the slum area where people seemed to have various addictions. They, with the help of posters, explained people how addictions can be harmful to them. The villagers were also informed about the Free Medical Check-up Camp and Eye Check-up camp to be organized by the NSS unit.

  3. The Inaugural Function was organized at Morlidhar Vidya Mandir, Alarsa at 3 pm. Dr. Yogesh Patel- NSS Programme Officer gave a few glimpses of various activities to be organized during the camp. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi- Principal of the college presided over the function. He assured the NSS unit for providing all the support and facilities and encouraged the volunteers for active participation. Dr. Jagrutiben Parmar- Coordinator, NSS, S. P. University, V. V. Nagar was invited as the chief guest. In her speech, she appreciated the efforts put in by the NSS Unit and wished the unit for the success in future activities. Ms. Jayshriben Patel- Sarpanch of the village, Mr. Maheshbhai Patel- Trustee of Kelvani Mandal, Alarsa, Mr. Dipakbhai Patel- Principal of Morlidhar Vidya Mandir and many villagers were also present in the function.


  4. At 7 pm ‘Sky Gazing’ programme was organized in association with Community Science Centre, V. V. Nagar. Dr. Brijmohan Thakur, Ass. Prof-Dept of Physics, S. P. University and Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi, Director of C. C. Patel Community Science Centre, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar gave the volunteers information about planets, comet, galaxy etc. with the help of telescopes.

  5. After dinner, some volunteers gave demonstrations on ‘Superstitions Eradication’ with the help of a skit involving several experiments of chemical reactions. These experiments were performed under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Smita Srivastva- Head, Dept of Chemical Sciences of the college.

  6. After dinner the students were informed about the planned activities of the next day and assigned various duties.

Day - 3 : 05-01-2016
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. A special session for bird-watching was organized near a pond of the village wherein Dr. Rajiv Bhatti, Faculty in V. P. and R. P. T. P. Science College, V. V. Nagar and Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi demonstrated some techniques for bird-watching.

  3. At 9.30 some groups of students visited Morlidhar Vidya Mandir and Pay-Centre Group Shala and explained some scientific theories related to ‘Save and Conserve Energy’ with the help of some scientific models. Some groups of volunteers were sent to various parts of the village to inform villagers about the guest-lectures to be delivered by the college faculty members.

  4. At 2 pm Dr. Rita N. Kumar – Head, Dept of Biosciences and Environmental Sciences of the college delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Save Money, Save Energy and Secure Future’.

  5. At 3 pm Dr. Shweta Joshi – Faculty, Dept of Chemical Sciences of the college delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Women Empowerment through Self-employment’.

  6. At 4 pm Ms. Shreya Bhavsar – Head, Dept of Computer Sciences of the college delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Importance of cleanliness for good health’.

  7. At 5 pm a Mehndi Competition was organized for the female villagers wherein 42 female participated.

  8. A programme of Bhajan was organized by the villagers at 8 pm. The winners of Mehndi Competition were given prizes at the end.

Day - 4 : 06-01-2016
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6.30 am to 7.30 am.

  2. At 10 am, in association with A. D. Gorwala Blood Bank, Karamsad a ‘Blood Donation Camp’ was organized wherein 6 units of blood was collected.

  3. At 10.30 am some groups of students conducted Essay Writing Competition, Drawing Competition and Elocution Competition at Morlidhar Vidya Mandir and Pay-Centre Prathmik Kumar Shala.


  4. In association with Sai Shruti Charitable Trust, Anand (U.K.), a Free Eye Check-up Camp and Homeopathic Medical Check-up Camp were organized from 1 pm to 6 pm. The needy people were given spectacles at the concessional rate of Rs. 30/- by the trust. 257 people got their eyes checked and 187 took advantage of the Homeopathic Camp.


  5. Hon. Dr. Kamal Kumar Kar- State Coordinator (NSS) visited the camp and interacted with volunteers. He appreciated the activities and also suggested some novel activities.

  6. Two groups visited a slum area and 47 families were surveyed for various issues regarding basic necessities. This data will be passed on to the Collector Office so that necessary steps can be taken for the betterment of those residents.



  7. At 2 pm Dr. Akshay Gupte – Head, Dept of Microbiology of the college delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Technology in Agriculture’ and ‘Water and Food based disease’.

  8. At 3 pm Dr. Himanshu Trivedi – Head, Dept of Physical Sciences of the college delivered a guest lecture on the topic ‘Superstitions Eradication’.

  9. At 3.30 pm two faculty members Dr. Chetan Dudhagara and Mr. Mayur Patel of the department of Computer Science conducted a training session for the computer teachers of Morlidhar Vidya Mandir.

  10. Street plays on the themes of ‘Save Girl Child’ and ‘Clean India Mission’ were performed in various streets of the village.

  11. From 8.30 pm to 10 pm a workshop was organized wherein all the groups were assigned some tasks involving brainstorming exercises. Students found those exercises very interesting and helpful in analyzing their perspective towards life and social service.

Day - 5 : 07-01-2016
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. At 9 am Ms. Dhwani Sharma, a motivational speaker delivered a lecture on ‘Youth Empowerment and Skills Development’.

  3. At 10.30 the volunteers were taken to the visit of Javahar Navoday Vidyalaya. A senior teacher explained about the working system, facilities provided by the school and its unique features.

  4. A street play based on various themes like ‘Save Girl Child’, ‘Saksharata Abhiyan’ and ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ was performed in various streets of the village.


  5. After dinner, a programme of Garba was organized wherein the volunteers, along with the villagers, palyed Garba.



Day - 6 : 08-01-2016
  1. A session of Yoga was conducted from 6 am to 7 am.

  2. A Free Medical Check-up Camp was organized from 10 am to 3 pm. A team of doctors and paramedical staff from Surajben Govindbhai Patel Ayurvedic Hospital, New Vallabh Vidyanagar examined one hundred and thirty-nine patients and medicines were given free of cost as per requirement.



  3. From 2 pm to 4.30 pm street plays on the theme of ‘Save Girl Child’ and ‘Clean India’ were performed in the outskirts of the village.

  4. After dinner, cultural programmes were organized wherein some students performed danc. Mr. Kartik Jagtap presented songs.


Day - 7 : 09-01-2016
 
  • The valedictory function of NSS camp started at 10.30 am at Swaminarayan Temple Hall. Dr. Basudeb Bakshi - the Principal, Dr. Ujjwal Trivedi- Director of C. C. Patel Community Science Centre, Sardar Patel University, V. V. Nagar and leading villagers were present on this occasion. The winners of Essay-Writing, Elocution and Drawing competitions were given prizes. The NSS Unit expressed sincere thanks to all the Principals and teachers of both the schools and villagers of Dahemi for all their support and cooperation.
